EXCERPT:
Sheer frustration lined his handsome face.
“I didn’t abandon her.”
“I believe you, but you’ll have to convince Catherine. If you let me, I’ll help you.”
He stepped toward her, then hesitated. “Why would you do that for me?”
He stood so close to her she could feel his breath. His predatory gaze stirred a spiral of warmth in her core, making her tremble. Her mouth suddenly dry, she licked her lips.
“You should not tempt a man—”
“Tempt?”
He pulled her into his arms, holding her in an almost brutal grasp. “Tempt,” he confirmed.
Exasperation clenched her fists against his chest. “You are either the most arrogant man I’ve ever met or the most ignorant. I’m not tempting you.”
His head bent and his lips brushed hers gently before claiming her mouth fully, his teeth skimming her lips. A sigh parted her mouth and he delved inside. The warm heat of his kiss teased and taunted until she wanted nothing more than to drive him to the same earth-shattering madness.
A flare of passion cloaked her in wonder as his arms enfolded her. Her body tingled from head to toe and even when he lifted his lips from hers, the powerful connection between them lingered, shimmering inside her. How does he do this to me?
He stared down at her, a touch of surprise revealed in his eyes. His embrace loosened until he held her as if she were a piece of fine china.
Clay ran his fingers up and down her arms and her breath hitched. She met his deep blue gaze. Never had anyone’s touch created such feelings of need.
