Sage Winters is the owner of an Adirondack bed and breakfast aptly named Thistle Dew by her late husband, Eric. She is a strong woman, not only successful in her business but as a mother. Although she tries to be loyal to her love for Eric, frequent guest and author Hawke is so irresistible that he catches her eye and eventually her heart. Sage is an overprotective mother who reluctantly learns to rely on others at a time of crisis.

Hawke, a shy, reclusive best selling author, steps up to the plate as hero when Sage's daughter, Pia is missing and any clues to her whereabouts have been buried during a blizzard. He learns to trust his intuitive voice and finds Pia via dreams and eerie signs.

And it is Eric, in spirit, who is not always angelic, but intercedes and intervenes to keep his ‘girls’ safe. He not only shows Hawke where to find Pia but encourages Sage to open her heart and love again.

Excerpt:

"We took our eyes off her for a second."

"Exactly. And it was a second too long wasn't it?"

"My God, Sage, it was just a simple kiss." Hawke instantly regretted the callousness of that comment when he noticed the rage creep into her eyes, then immediately evaporate into genuine pain.

"It was not just a kiss, Hawke." She turned to face him, "It was my first kiss. My first kiss since Eric. And it was not simple. To me. A kiss is not simple if it made me feel so warm that when it was over I was surprised that it was still snowing. My mind celebrated the sensations of that kiss with such an explosion of colors the dusk momentarily blinded me." She buried her face in her palms, pressed her fingertips in her eyes, and sighed heavily. "I think that my antipathy could be directly related to the fact that those few stolen moments have altered my life forever. And to you it was just a simple kiss."

Hawke only heard her confession hidden between the lines and his heart whispered. Oh my God, she loves me. He wanted to celebrate, to embrace her and swing her in a circle and kiss her fully, deeply and then carry her away to the ... what was he thinking? Down boy, down.

"I believe in signs, Hawke. Even someone insensitive to signs should surely see through this one. While I was so preoccupied with 'just a kiss' as you so delicately put it, my daughter, my most precious Pia, disappeared. That is clearly a message. Loud and clear. That kiss was a mistake. A huge, unforgivable mistake." Her chin quivered and tears trailed down her perfect complexion. "My God! What have I done?"
