For one instant, he looked into eyes the color of the finest blue sapphires. They opened wide as wakefulness suddenly hit. A shaky hand smoothed the tangle of dark hair away from her face as she abruptly sat up and stared at him.
“Get out,” she said flatly.
“No good morning kiss?” He’d always found humor to be a good diversion and boy, did he need a diversion from Jade’s lips.
She gave him an anatomically impossible suggestion.
“I see sleep hasn’t done anything for your disposition,” he chuckled. One hand caressed the arc of her cheek and a finger tapped the end of her nose. “Maybe breakfast will improve your mood.”
“There’s nothing wrong with my mood that the absence of a certain pirate wouldn’t improve.”
He sighed dramatically and put a hand to his heart. “You wound me with that assessment of my character.”
There was no corresponding look of humor on her face and he realized she really wasn’t a morning person. In fact, if the glare on her face was any indication, the dear Miss Jade likely wouldn’t shine until noon.
He put his hand on the doorknob and turned back to look at her in speculation. She pulled the blanket up to her chest.
“Relax, Jade. I’m not going to ravish you.” He chuckled softly. “At least not yet. Business before pleasure.”
