Running back home to Logan Springs seemed like a good idea nine months ago, when Gaby Flores left her false-hearted fiancé at the altar after catching him playing hide the chorizo with her bridesmaid before the wedding. But the environmental scientist finds herself Sidelined by Love when the high school quarterback who broke her heart returns to town with his uptown version of economic progress.
Notorious bad boy Brock Logan is back in town, hoping to repair his reputation by building a regional mall on the outskirts of Logan Springs. The tree-hugging beauty trying to quarterback blitz him is none other than Gaby Flores, who clothes-lined his heart the day she hit town. He’s never forgotten—or forgiven—the class valedictorian for the unsportsmanlike conduct that knocked him on his butt ten years ago. For him, this is Super Bowl XLII, and all tactics are fair game, even romance.
Gaby may think this is just a weekend game, but Brock knows the right moves will win her heart and get his mall built. His kisses are MVP-worthy, but will his moves get him trapped in his end zone…or will he make that long-awaited touchdown for happiness?

Her heart said yes, but her mouth said, "No." Gaby shook her head. "Sorry, I make it a point not to socialize with the enemy."
"Enemy?" Brock good-naturedly reached for his chest as if she'd stabbed him. "C'mon, I'm just a good old country boy trying to make a decent living by helping--"
"To destroy the environment," she interjected.
"You're killing me, sweetheart."
"I'm not your sweetheart, so quit with the endearments, would you?"
He smiled, his face open and friendly. "Sorry. It's an old habit, and you know what they say about old habits, don't you? They're hard to break."
She smiled back and winked. "I'll let you in on a little secret. If you don't quit calling me sweetheart, I'll make sure to help you break it." She paused for effect. "Remember, I've got history on my side."
His deep guttural laugh eased the tension from her shoulders. He took her hand and before she could stop him, he'd brought it to his lips, caressing her fingertips. The feel of his day-old beard on her skin had her insides steaming. His deep, blue eyes explored her face, and her body temperature rose incrementally with each swipe of his lips. "How about eight o'clock next Thursday night?" he asked, his voice low and seductive. "A business meeting, that's all. I promise to behave."
She pulled her fingers from his grasp and shook her head. "Sorry. I'm busy that night."
Lacing his hands behind his back, he leaned to look directly into her eyes. "Too busy to work in a business meeting about the Logan Development project, Gaby? I guess I was wrong about your passion against the project." He took a stray strand of her hair and tucked it behind her ear.
"Don't."
