Adam placed a finger over her lips, effectively silencing her. "What's your name?"
"Why?"
He could see the confusion on her face. She looked to be about thirty seconds away from bolting. He scooped the jacket from the ground and wrapped it around her shoulders, holding her in place. "I'm an old fashioned kind of guy. Little things like knowing my wife's name are important to me."
She licked her lips, debated the wisdom of pursuing this hasty marriage idea.
"Mallory Katherine Bellsford," she said at last.
He told himself he was doing it for his daughter. But he knew that wasn't the entire truth. The thought of turning his back on Mallory and leaving her to fend for herself didn't sit right. He couldn't shake the need to protect her.
