Excerpt:

"Well, I cannot..." Madeline started.

"Of all the..." Oscar began, swinging his head back around.

They stopped, their faces just inches apart. Madeline's eyes widened. Oscar's breath warmed her already flushed cheeks. The scent of sandalwood and spring air held her spellbound and the thundering of her heart drowned out all other sounds. Of their own volition her eyelids slowly closed and with some invisible force nudging her, Madeline leaned in a little further.

Lips, firm but gentle, touched hers. Oscar's. Her memory recognized the feel, responded to it. The spine-tingling sensation pushed all coherent contemplations from her head. She was powerless to do anything but savor the rightness of the melding of their bodies.

In an instant, the reassuring pressure on Madeline's lips was gone, the loss affected her immediately. The soft click of a door closing startled Madeline. Her lids flew open, her eyes darted around. The room was suspiciously empty. Puzzlement knit her brow. Had she just imagined a kiss between her and Oscar?

Madeline raised a trembling hand to her still throbbing lips. No. That moment had been real. As real as Oscar's return. And Lucinda's!

The seriousness of Madeline's actions struck her. The roiling in her stomach intensified.

She had just wantonly kissed her sister's husband.
