Excerpt:

"What's gotten into you tonight?"

Brow furrowed, Keith shook his head. "I admit those two are something else. I'm sorry they upset you, but don't you think you're overreacting just a tad?"

"No I don't," Amanda said. "Call me a prude, but..."

Holding her gaze he tried to take her hand but she pulled away. Smiling to reassure her, he said, "I would never do that."

"Sid probably thinks I am and I really don't give a damn. I will not stand for prying eyes in my bedroom."

So that was the problem. "Maybe I should have asked someone else to be my best man."

Shoulders squared and chin jutted she said, "Maybe you should have asked someone else to marry you. Right now I want you to leave. We should have waited but you were in such a rush--"

"I think you're making a big deal over nothing. I admit their questions threw us for a loop. They could have used better judgment and not invaded our personal territory."

"Right. Instead of saying something to Sid immediately you simply sat there, smiled and played along," she said in a tone just short of a shout.

"What did you want me to do? Punch him in the nose?"

"That would've been a start," she said, then burst out crying.

Keith stared at her. "I'm going to leave before I say something I'll regret." He got up and headed for the door.

"You do that," she bawled to his back and grabbed a tissue.
